As a mom, one of my biggest expenses is diapers. And with three of my children under three years old, it can get expensive! I usually buy Parent's Choice (a Wal-Mart brand) at 13.97 for a box of 82 size 4 diapers. Recently, I was told by one of their associates that the Parent's choice brand diapers were going to be discontinued due to their manufacturer not being able to keep up with the high demand. I am currently potty training my older two, but have just recently had a baby so I will still be in the market for at least one of my children. One of my friends told me I should look into cloth diapers. Resistant on the idea, I still decided to do some research and number crunching. I stumbled upon a company called "bum genius" that sells a product called the "flip" system. The "flip" system is a one-size-fits-all cover that is water resistant and has liners that you slip in and flip out when soiled and throw in your washer. For a pack that includes 2 covers and 6 of the washable liners, the price is comparable to 4 boxes of diapers! They say the average baby goes through 7000 diapers a year. With disposable diapers, that cost is about 1200.00 per year! The website suggests that for each baby, you should purchase twenty inserts @ $5 each. That is a total of 120.00 and are said to last through more than one child and also have an excellent resale value, assuming they are in good condition, of course. The cost savings is immense! With some basic math, switching from disposable to the all-in-one diapers from "bum genius" save you a grand total savings of 1072.00 a year per baby! Wow! With laundry being just about a buck per load (or about $360/year) the cost savings is still huge! I am definitely going to invest in these the minute I have the money!
This is the website i have been looking at:
